'Mahusay?' Boy, 16, from GenSan linked to hacking of government agencies, school websites

The Anti-Cybercrime Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP-ACG) has implemented a search warrant on the house of a a 16-year old boy tagged in hacking websites of several government agencies and private institutions.

The boy, according to PNP-ACG director Brig. Gen. Ronnie Cariaga, was also linked to the hacking of the websites of some schools.

Cariaga said the boy yielded several devices when the search warrant was implemented on July 18 in his house in General Santos City in relation to the posting of personal information of two policemen on social media.

“The warrants stemmed from a report on April 18, 2024, that the subject posted the information system login credentials of two PNP personnel on his Facebook  account,” said Cariaga.

“This act compromised the personal information and sensitive PNP records of the affected personnel,” he added.

During the conduct of background check and investigation after the serving of the search warrant, police found out that the boy was knowledgeable in hacking websites of various agencies and schools.

The same investigation revealed that the boy learned hacking when he was added to an Messenger chat group of several hackers.

“The PNP ACG will examine the digital devices seized from the subject to acquire necessary information for filing of charges against him,” said Cariaga.

The boy, he said, is still with his parents.

The official then urged other companies or agencies that have experienced illegal access or data breaches of their information systems to report it to the nearest PNP ACG office.

He said timely reporting is essential for facilitating immediate action and mitigating potential damage.
