4 Japanese 'fugitives' arrested -- BI

Four Japanese fugitives wanted in their country for fraud have been arrested in Paranaque City and at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Wednesday, July 17.

Those arrested in Paranaque City based on a mission order issued by Commissioner Norman Tansingco were identified by the BI as Ueda Koji, 27, Kiyohara Jun, 29, and Suzuki Seiji, 29.

“Records show that they have outstanding warrants of arrest since May 2024 issued by the Omiya Summary Court for Fraud in violation of the Japanese Penal Code,” the BI said..

The Japanese arrested at NAIA was identified as Sawada Masaya, 39 years old.

“All four subjects are said to be founding members of a telecom fraud syndicate based in Cambodia with criminal charges related to Unlawful Capture, Confinement, Extortion, and Fraud,” the BI said.

The arrested Japanese nationals are now detained at the BI's facility in Taguig City pending their deporation.
