My usual role in events is interviewing arriving celebrities on the red carpet. (pero minsan naman main host ako!) Well, I enjoy this task because anything goes and I get to talk with the guests. (maliban sa may tf naman, kaya aarte pa ba ako?!)
Last Sunday, I was the red carpet host for SPEEd’s (Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors) The 7th Eddys (Entertainment Editor’s Choice) at the Manila Marriot Hotel. I couldn’t say no to SPEEd President Salve Asis and her talent coordinator Gorgy Rula. (lagot din ako kay Nay Lolit Solis pag umattitude ako!) That’s why I made sure I would look good for its modern Filipiniana theme. I wore a Francis Libiran Barong! (thank you FL, Arsi Baltazar at Sen!)
One of the challenges in producing an awards night is asking the big stars to attend. (paano kung mga starlet ang dumating, sila ang iinterviewhin ko?!) In all fairness to the Eddys, stars arrived. (hindi salat sa bituin!)
Seeing Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chairman Direk Jose Javier Reyes on the red carpet was fun. (presenter ang tito nyo!) He is a good friend. We always had hilarious conversations with our other friends at our regular dinners. (as in walang humpay na tawanan!) But of course, for this event, I had to, at least, ask him sensible questions. (bilang ginagagalang sya sa industriyang ito!)
I also love Ms. Nova Villa. We are not close friends, but I worked with her in a TV5 sitcom years ago and witnessed her professionalism. (throwing of lines palang, kabisado na at umaacting na!) She is one of the Icon awardees. (Sure!)
I am comfortable interviewing Senator Bong Revilla at Congresswoman Lani Mercado (bongga sa kanyang Rajo Laurel gown!) because they are Nay Lolit’s “alagas” (kaya feeling ko belong ako!) Showbiz will always be part of their family. (ako ba part?!)
When veteran broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez, a Joe Quirino Lifetime Achievement Awardee, arrived, I made sure I was ready with my questions. (baka kasi ma-award ako ni madame!) She exuded a queen vibe with her Puey Quinones gown. (na two days lang daw ginawa!) She admitted feeling “old” for being a recipient of the award but thanked the Eddys for the recognition. (walang makakapigil sa isang Korina!)
It was my first time interviewing Julia Montes. (ang takad pala nya sa personal!) There was no special escort for her on the red carpet, and I didn’t bother to ask why. (baka sugurin ako ng Probinsyanong Batang Quiapo!) Congratulations on her Best Actress win! (ka-tie si Charlie Dizon na absent that night)
The power couple of Philippine Showbiz Dingdong Dantes at Marian Rivera (na saksakan nang ganda na parang may dalang divine intervention sa kanyang Jo Rubio gown!) stole the limelight. (iba ang talaga ang dating!) I always enjoy interviewing them (masarap kausap at mukhang masarap din si Dingdong…maging kaibigan!) They are Box Office Heroes of the Eddys (ask nyo pa si Hero Angeles!)
My night’s highlight is actually seeing Enchong Dee again. (bilang mahal ko sya!) Whenever I interview him, I would always say (walang kaabog abog ha!) that he has a special place in my heart. (na mukhang ok naman sa kanya!) I believe I am his lucky charm that made him win the Best Supporting Actor award. (nag-fifeeling lang ako mga ateng!)
These are just some of the moments I had on the red carpet. The 7th Eddys will be aired on Sunday, July 14, at 10 pm on ALLTV. (EDDY…ako na!)
