Cloudy skies, scattered rains to prevail over parts of Visayas, Mindanao

Two weather systems are expected to bring cloudy and rainy conditions to parts of Visayas and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, July 1.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Obet Badrina said no tropical cyclones are affecting the country as of Monday.

However, the easterlies and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will result in cloudy and rainy weather in some areas of Visayas and Mindanao.

Warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, also known as “easterlies,” may cause cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Eastern Visayas.

PAGASA warned that flash floods or landslides may occur in the region due to moderate to heavy rains.

The ITCZ, a convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres where rain-bearing clouds form, will also bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and Davao Occidental.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may prevail in Bicol Region, Aurora, and Quezon due to the easterlies.

The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Based on the PAGASA’s forecast for July 2, the likelihood of rainfall across select key cities is the following, Metro Manila (40 percent), Laoag City (10 percent), Baguio City (10 percent), Legazpi City (60 percent), Puerto Princesa City (40 percent), Metro Cebu (60 percent), Bacolod City (60 percent), Cagayan de Oro City (70 percent), Metro Davao (70 percent), and Zamboanga City (70 percent).
