PAGASA: Rain showers, thunderstorms to prevail over eastern parts of the Philippines

The eastern sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao may experience cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms due to warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as the easterlies, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, June 25.

Based on PAGASA’s weather bulletin, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Caraga, Bicol Region, Romblon, Palawan, and Quezon may receive moderate to heavy rains, which could trigger flash floods or landslides, particularly in hazard-prone areas.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other parts of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is also advised to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms could lead to flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Rhea Torres added that there are no low pressure areas or tropical cyclones within the country’s area of responsibility currently affecting the weather.

Therefore, the easterly winds are expected to be the dominant weather system in the country in the next few days, she added.

Torres also noted a temporary slight weakening of the southwest monsoon or habagat.

Based on the PAGASA’s forecast for June 26, the likelihood of rainfall varies across key cities: Metro Manila (40 percent), Laoag City (10 percent), Baguio City (10 percent), Legazpi City (100 percent), Puerto Princesa City (60 percent), Metro Cebu (100 percent), Bacolod City (60 percent), Cagayan de Oro City (80 percent), Metro Davao (70 percent), and Zamboanga City (80 percent).
