Scattered rains, thunderstorms to persist in parts of Visayas, Mindanao due to LPA

A low pressure area (LPA) may persist in bringing rains over parts of Visayas and Mindanao before dissipating later in the day, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, June 11.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Rhea Torres said the LPA was located 145 kilometers west-northwest of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, or over the waters of Garcia Hernandez, Bohol, at 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

She also said that the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone as it may eventually dissipate in the next few hours.

Before dissipating, it may continue to bring scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Agusan del Norte, Torres added.

Those residing in these areas are advised to remain vigilant against the possibility of flash floods or landslides, which may occur due to moderate to heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, Torres said the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, can expect partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public about potential flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Moreover, Torres said the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” may return by the weekend and bring rains to the western parts of the country.
