DOH reports 5 times more measles, rubella cases this year compared to 2023


The Department of Health (DOH) released on Thursday, May 9, its latest data on measles and rubella cases, indicating a significant increase in these cases in the country in 2024 compared to 2023.

Based on the department's data, from the start of the year to April 27, 2,264 cases have been reported.

As per DOH, this is“five times higher” compared to the 397 cases during the same period last year.

Pertussis data also showed 2,149 reported cases nationwide—a significant increase compared to the 44 cases reported in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the health department noted that it had successfully vaccinated 1,177,299 children in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
