President Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte continued to enjoy high trust and approval ratings despite significant declines in their respective ratings in the first quarter of 2024, based on a survey conducted by OCTA Research.

The "Tugon ng Masa" (TNM) survey results released on Monday, May 20, showed that 69 percent of Filipinos trust President Marcos and 65 percent approve of his performance.

“However, his trust and performance ratings significantly declined by six percent (from 75 percent and 71 percent, respectively)—more significant than the margin of error of +/-3 percent for national estimates—in the first quarter of 2024 compared to his trust and approval ratings in the last quarter TNM Q4 survey conducted in December 2023,” OCTA said in its report.

Meanwhile, Vice President Duterte received a high level of trust and approval from Filipinos, with 68 percent and 64 percent, respectively.

OCTA also observed a decline in both trust and approval ratings for the Vice President compared to the last quarter of 2023, with decreases of 9 percent and 11 percent, respectively.

Zubiri, Romualdez trust, approval ratings ‘statistically unchanged’

During the same survey period, most Filipinos continued to express trust and approval for the performance of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and Speaker Martin Romualdez, despite slight decreases in their ratings in the first quarter of 2024.

OCTA pointed out that while the ratings of for both officials showed nominal declies in the first quarter of 2024, these ratings were still within the margin of error.

“Hence, the ratings for the Senate President and the Speaker of the House for the first quarter of 2024 remain statistically unchanged compared to the last quarter TNM Q4 survey conducted in December 2023,” it said.

Zubiri received a trust rating of 56 percent, which is three percentage points lower than the 59 percent rating from the TNM Q4 survey conducted in December 2023.

Romualdez obtained a trust rating of 61 percent, which marked a three percentage point decrease compared to the 64 percent rating from the December 2023 survey.

In contrast, Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo received a trust rating of 15 percent, which reflected an eight percentage point decline from the 23 percent rating in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Meanwhile, Zubiri got a performance rating of 57 percent, which is three percentage points lower than the 60 percent rating from the TNM Q4 survey.

Romualdez got a performance rating of 62 percent, which is also lower by three percentage points compared to the 65 percent rating in December 2023.

Gesmundo got a performance rating of 14 percent, down by four percentage points compared to 18 percent previously.

OCTA’s survey was conducted from March 24 to 27 with a sample size of 1,200 respondents nationwide.
