Appointments of 804 BuCor personnel invalidated for lack of eligibility

The appointments of 804 personnel of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) had been invalidated for lack of eligibility.

But BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. assured that he is setting up a directorate office for education and training to address the eligibility problems of the bureau’s personnel.

Catapang told the affected personnel that "the bureau is creating a program to address their required schooling for their career advancement.”

Meanwhile, Catapang swore in on Thursday, April 4, newly promoted Correctional Technical Superintendent Marjorie Ann Santidad, four newly promoted non-uniformed personnel, and seven newly hired non-uniformed personnel.

“Marami pa tayong ipupromote at open pa tayo to hire new personnel (We will promote more personnel and we are open to hire new personnel), so do your job and do it well until you get promoted,” he said during the oath taking ceremony.

“We need to work faster at least 10 times than the government procedure to get things done,” he also said.

Republic Act No. 10575, the BuCor Act of 2013, turned the bureau into a uniformed organization that required its officials and personnel to meet certain qualifications.

The provisions in the law resulted in the dismissal of 233 personnel whose services ended last March 16 for having failed to comply with the eligibility requirements.
