Cavite 4th district Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr., one of the most beloved and respected members of the House of Representatives, passed away on Saturday afternoon, April 27, his family announced.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cavite 4th District Representative Elpidio "Pidi" F. Barzaga Jr., in California, USA, Saturday afternoon (Philippine Time). He was 74," a post from the veteran solon's Facebook page read.

Rep. Barzaga, or "Cong. Pidi" to those close to him, is survived by his loving wife, DasmariÃ±as City Mayor Jenny Barzaga; and his sons BM Kiko, Third, and Enzo.

The lawyer-lawmaker a the long-time president of the National Unity Party (NUP). He stepped down from his post shortly after the May 2022 national elections.

In late October 2023, Rep. Barzaga flew to the United States to undergo a heart surgery.

A darling of his House colleagues and the media, Cong Pidi was known for his brillian intellect and no-nonsense interpellations during public hearings, all of which were on full display even during his final appearances at Batasan Complex last year.

"Throughout his life, Cong. Pidi dedicated himself to serving the people of the Province of Cavite and the City of DasmariÃ±as with unwavering commitment and passion...As we mourn his loss, we find solace in the countless lives he touched and the enduring impact of his work. We humbly ask for your prayers and support during this difficult time," the Facebook post further said.
