The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, April 1 said some parts of Luzon may experience minimal rainfall due to the presence of a ridge of high pressure area (HPA) or the extension of an anti-cyclone system.
“Kapag mayroon tayong ridge o ito nga iyong bahagi ng high pressure area, ang kaibahan nito sa low pressure area (LPA) ay mas wala masyadong nabubuong kaulapan, kasi kung ang low pressure area ay nagkakaroon ng papasok na mga hangin, nagkakaroon ng mga kaulapan, ang ridge of high pressure area papalabas ang hangin, kaya iyong bahagi ng Northern Luzon medyo maliit iyong tyansa ng mga pag-ulan (When there is a ridge of HPA, the difference with the LPA is that there are almost no clouds formed, because if the LPA causes formation of clouds, the ridge of HPA blows winds away, that is why there is slim chance of rains in areas where the high pressure area is),” PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said in its public forecast on Monday.
PAGASA said the ridge of HPA extends across the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon.
Meanwhile, it said the eastern sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao may experience isolated rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
It warned the public of flash floods or landslides in times of severe thunderstorms.
Based on the PAGASA’s extended weather outlook from April 2 to 4, the actual air temperatures in some key areas are 24–34°C in Metro Manila, 25-32° in Legazpi City, 17–27°C in Baguio City, 26–31°C in Metro Cebu, 26–33°C in Iloilo City, 25–32°C in Tacloban City, 24–35°C in Metro Davao, 25–35°C in Zamboanga City, and 26–32°C in Cagayan de Oro City.
Moreover, the country may see either one or no tropical cyclones in April, PAGASA said.
