The Manila City Council passed a resolution encouraging all business establishments and households in the City of Manila to join this year’s Earth Hour and to reduce the use of plastic products.

During its 121st session, Councilor Jaybee Hizon, Councilor Johann Maureen "Apple" Nieto-Rodriguez, Councilor Pamela "Fa" Fugoso-Pascula, Councilor Arlene Maile Atienza, and Councilor Timothy "Tol" Zarcal filed the City Resolution No.168, series of 2024.

The resolution calls for the reduction in the use of plastic products among Manila residents and businesses in observance of Earth Hour.

They said it will promote the country’s initiatives to save the Earth.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan has recently announced that the local government of Manila will lead this year’s observance of Earth Hour.

The event will be held at the Kartilya ng Katipunan on March 23 from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

The 15th Earth Hour in the country will have the theme “Switch Off Plastic Pollution, Give an Hour for Earth”.

The observance of Earth Hour is annually held in March. It started on March 31 in Sydney, Australia, where more than 2.2 million people turned off their lights for one hour.

This was a massive activity to show a climate-skeptic government that the citizens were concerned about climate change.

Earth Hour has been massively observed and celebrated in the Philippines since 2009.
