The rattan chairs infested with bed bugs (surot) that bit many inconvenienced passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) have finally been discarded by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines ordered the removal of the infested rattan chairs inside the NAIA Terminals 2 and 3.

On February 28, the MIAA management apologized to the public after receiving complaints from bitten passengers who took their ordeal on social media.

A directive was also given by MIAA to terminal managers for the conduct of comprehensive facility inspections and enhanced sanitation measures.

The rattan chairs were installed at NAIA last year as part of a makeover project by the Department of Tourist (DOT) at the premier airport. Its design was presented to the media on April 4, 2023.
