PNP starts preparations in securing People Power anniversary

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be deploying around 8,500 policemen to secure the celebration of the People Power Anniversary on Feb. 25.

PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. said around 6,000 will be deployed in Metro Manila while around 2,500 will be tasked to secure the celebration in Cebu.

“Of course these numbers will adjust depending on how the intelligence reports will come in. We are looking at rallies so we are appealing to them to make their activities peaceful,” said Acorda.

So far, Acorda said they have not monitored any threat for the celebration of the EDSA People Power Revolution that led to the ouster of former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr.

He said the focus is in securing all the protesters and other people who would participate in the activity and all the policemen who would be tasked to secure the activities were directed to exercise maximum tolerance.

“So far, we have not monitored any alarming threat except for this crowd that we are expecting,” said Acorda.

Nevertheless, we are  closely monitoring all the intelligence reports that we have been receiving and we will be deploying accordingly,” he added.
