CEU in review: A legacy of excellence

A moment to look back on noteworthy achievements of its students, faculty, and alumni


Centro Escolar University has just begun the new semester, marking the conclusion of the first half of the academic calendar. This period has seen achievements ranging from topping the board exams, excelling in sports leagues, winning academic competitions, to receiving prestigious awards both locally and internationally.

Sterling Board Performance

The University has produced new licensed professionals with Escolarians emerging on the topnotchers list of different licensure examinations.

First on the topnotchers roll are Angela Borlaza and Hailey Shayne Meneses who placed 5th and 9th, respectively, in the August 2023 Psychometrician Licensure Examination. 

Adding another feather to CEU's cap in the field of optometry is Dr. Mariela Colleen Castillo who earned the 8th Place in the October 2023 Optometrist Licensure Examination. 

It was another celebration when four CEU graduates got four of the highest ranks in the November 2023 Pharmacist Licensure Exam. They are Justine Kaye Gajo, 1st Place; Jediael Yanesa, 3rd Place; Vince Patrick Ruado, 8th Place; and Elaine Glen Tepace, 10th Place. CEU Malolos and CEU Manila were even listed as the 7th and 9th Top Performing Schools, while CEU Makati registered an impressive 86.96 percent overall performance rating. 

The most recent addition to the roster of CEU’s board exam achievers is Jessica Shih who landed 10th Place in the November 2023 Dentist Board Exam.

For the November 2023 Philippine Nurses Licensure Exam, all CEU campuses garnered excellent passing rates; CEU Manila, 98.43 percent; CEU Makati, 98.73 percent; and CEU Malolos, 97.67 percent.

It is also a good record for CEU in the Nutritionist-Dietitian Licensure Examination after gaining an overall passing rate of 96.15 percent.
The harvest is also bountiful as CEU has produced 18 new lawyers and 32 doctors.

Excellence Beyond Academics

CEU’s success extends beyond the academic realm, making waves in various sports competitions—all emerging as Champions.

The CEU Men’s Basketball Team clinched the championship title of the Sulit Breakdown Basketball Invitational (25 Under), showcasing exceptional talent and teamwork on the court.

The CEU Lady Scorpions brought home its 11th Gold in the 54th Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) both for basketball and volleyball tournaments, establishing CEU as a powerhouse in women's sports.

Showcasing CEU's prowess in the performing arts, the CEU Streetsquad exhibited their skills as they became champions of the National Dance All Girls College Hip Hop Division.

Even the alumni athletes are making their name in sports. CEU alumnus Jan Carlos Cifra secured a monumental victory as champion of the FIBA World Cup 2023 Molten Shooting Challenge with incredible 14 shots in just one minute.

Global Achievements

In a triumph of innovation and collaboration, a group of students from CEU was hailed champion in the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Youth Hackathon 2023. 

They are Marie Francheska Hermosa, taking Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media with 21 units of Education, CEU Malolos’ Charlene Grace Macapagal, also taking Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media, CEU Makati’s Alexene Faith Tomate, Computer Science major; and alongside peers from LPU-Cavite and UST, outperformed 95 groups from 40 countries worldwide with their groundbreaking mobile application prototype, "MILES" (Media Information Literacy Empowerment Space). 

Under the guidance of Mr. Jose Cris Sotto, a dedicated faculty member from CEU Malolos, Team AGOS harnessed their collective expertise to develop MILES.

The mobile application features entertaining bite-sized tools that will teach the user of MIL basics. There are also mini games that will test one’s MIL skills. The user can also join communities, create projects and participate on events to further his knowledge in MIL. Each month, an empowered community of marginalized youth will be featured to delve into their values, advocacies, and challenges in holding fundraising, exciting events, and many more.

The international victories never stop. CEU Singers Manila conquered the global stage and earned multiple awards in the Singapore International Choral Festival 2023 held at the Victoria Concert Hall, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore. With Prof. Angelito Ayran, Jr., CEU Music Program Head and choir conductor, the CEU Singers Manila was declared Champion in the Category B3 (Mixed Voices Open) and Category S (Music Sacra Open). 

They also received three Gold Awards for Category B3 (Mixed Voices Open), Category S (Music Sacra Open) and Category F (Folklore Open) and emerged as Grand Prix Finalist.

Students, Faculty and Alumni Awards and Distinctions

CEU Makati students Anna Sophia G. Redillas, Christine Grace C. Tenio, and Rannie Kenneth V. Rebenito showcased their excellence by becoming champions of the first Makati Medical Center’s Nursing Quiz Bee after prevailing over eight rival universities across Metro Manila.

In another milestone, CEU Malolos Department of Optometry Program Head, Dr. Maria Concepcion Anda was appointed as Ambassador for the Philippines by the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) and School of Medicine faculty, Dr. Roel Tolentino was recognized as the Outstanding Teacher in Oncology 2023 by the Philippine Society of Oncology.

Additionally, CEU School of Medicine alumnus, Dr. Christopher Rocha has earned a prestigious spot as one of The World Top two percent Scientists for 2022 based on Scopus data which was recently published by Elsevier, a global information analytics company.

Another CEU pride, Arshie Larga, a registered Pharmacist and a proud graduate of CEU was recognized as TikTok Creator of the Year, the highest title during the TikTok Awards Philippines 2023. Arshie has not only entertained but also enriched the lives of his viewers with his informative and witty videos that address common health concerns.

Centro Escolar University is truly a home of achievers. The collective achievements of the CEU community demonstrate the institution's commitment to producing leaders and champions across different fields. 

CEU has also proven its dedication to molding well-rounded individuals, likewise its commitment to honing the diverse talents of the members of its community, fostering a culture where triumphs are celebrated and individual potentials are realized.
