About 190,000 travellers recorded at int'l ports on Xmas eve, Xmas day

Almost 190,000 travellers have been recorded by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in the country's international ports on Christmas eve and Christmas day.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the heavy influx of travellers marked the two days of December -- Dec. 24 and 25 -- as the busiest period of the year.

"Our officers are committed to providing seamless services despite the surge in travelers during this peak season," Viado assured.

He said that BI records show that there have been 52,437 arrivals and 41,895 departures on Christmas eve.

On Christmas Day, he also said, there were 47,669 arrivals and 44,192 departures.

Viado said the BI anticipates a further increase in passenger traffic as more travelers are expected to arrive and depart following the New Year celebrations

Because of this, he advised travelers to arrive early at airports and complete their pre-departure and arrival requirements to help ease the processing flow during the busy holiday period.
