While Typhoon “Marce” (international name: Yinxing) remains inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has monitored a new low-pressure area (LPA) that may enter the PAR by Friday evening, Nov. 8 or Saturday morning, Nov. 9.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA, which formed early Friday morning, originated from the cloud clusters the weather bureau had been monitoring over the Pacific Ocean on Thursday, Nov. 7.
As of 4 a.m. Friday, the LPA was located 1,975 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon.
“Hindi rin natin inaalis ‘yung posibilidad na maging tropical depression ito pagpasok ng PAR at kung saka-sakali maging isang bagyo ay papangalanan nating ‘Nika’ (We are also not ruling out the possibility that this could develop into a tropical depression once it enters the PAR, and if it does, it will be named ‘Nika’),” Estareja said.
Depending on its development, Estareja warned that the potential tropical cyclone could affect large portions of Luzon in the coming days.
The new LPA has formed just as Typhoon Marce is expected to exit the PAR by Friday afternoon or evening.
