The 27 hogs were loaded on a motor banca manned by Armando Amurillo, 60, and Carlos Pregruer, 38.

They were intercepted by maritime police in the sea of Barangay Cogon East, Carmen at 4:40 a.m.

Authorities have stepped up the campaign against the transport of undocumented animals and goods into the province following an executive order issued by Gov. Gwen Garcia.

The hogs and two men were turned over to the Carmen Municipal Agriculture Office.

After it was found out that it was only their first offense, the two men were allowed to sail back to San Francisco town, Camotes together with the live hogs.

Last week, at least undocumented 80 hogs were seized in Dumanjug town, southern Cebu. The hogs were found abandoned in a motor banca from Negros Island.

Dumanjug Mayor Gungun Gica decided to have the seized pigs roasted and distributed them to residents who visited their departed loved ones on All Saints’ Day.
