Expect a chill in the air as the northeast monsoon season, locally known as “amihan,” is expected to start this week.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the passage of Tropical Storm “Marce” (international name: Yinxing) may enhance the northeasterly surface wind flow, ushering in the initial blast of cold air associated with amihan.

In a press conference on Monday, Nov. 4, PAGASA Assistant Weather Services Chief Chris Perez said an official statement announcing the start of the amihan season will be issued this week.

Amihan begins between the last week of October and the first week of November. It lasts until March, while its peak occurs from January to February.
