The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Nov. 24 that two weather systems—the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and the northeast monsoon—will bring rains to parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda said the ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Caraga and Davao regions.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” will bring cloudy skies and rains to Batanes and Cagayan.
Castañeda warned that the moderate to, at times, heavy rains could lead to flash floods and landslides, particularly in these areas.
The ITCZ is a weather system where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, while the amihan refers to the cold winds blowing from Siberia and mainland Asia.
Castañeda added that the ITCZ may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to the rest of Mindanao.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant against flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
