4 weather systems to affect the Philippines next week — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said four rain-bearing weather systems will affect parts of the country from Nov. 23 to 29.

In its seven-day weather outlook issued on Friday, Nov. 22, PAGASA said the northeast monsoon, easterlies, intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), and shear line will be the dominant weather systems in the country.

It noted that there is no significant threat of tropical cyclones during the forecast period.

On Saturday, Nov. 23, the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” will bring mostly cloudy skies with light rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Meanwhile, the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as easterlies, will cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Caraga, Davao Region, and Southern Leyte.

The shearline—the boundary between warm easterly winds and cold northeasterly winds—will form by late Saturday or Sunday, Nov. 24, and affect extreme Northern Luzon. It will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers over Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands, and Apayao.

PAGASA said the amihan will continue to bring mostly cloudy skies with light rains over Batanes on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the ITCZ will begin affecting Mindanao, causing mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Caraga and Davao Region.

The ITCZ is a weather system where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge and is also a breeding ground for potential tropical cyclones.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

From Monday to Tuesday, Nov. 25 to 26, PAGASA said the shearline would shift slightly southward, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over mainland Cagayan and Isabela.

The amihan will continue to bring mostly cloudy skies with light rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Meanwhile, the ITCZ will bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Caraga and Davao Region.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies and ITCZ, with higher chances of thunderstorms over the rest of Mindanao, as well as the eastern portions of Central and Southern Luzon and the Visayas.

From Wednesday to Friday, Nov. 27 to 29, PAGASA said a surge of the amihan will affect the country, bringing mostly cloudy skies with light rains over the Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley.

Ilocos Region will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

Moreover, the ITCZ will bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over most of Mindanao and Palawan.

The easterlies will bring generally fair weather across the country, with higher chances of thunderstorms and mostly cloudy skies over the eastern portions of Central and Southern Luzon and Visayas.
