The success of the recently concluded US elections has proved the robustness of American democratic values and institutions, the Philippine government said Thursday, Nov. 7.
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Enrique Manalo congratulated the US government on the successful presidential elections, which resulted in the upcoming comeback to the White House seat of former president Donald Trump.
"The Philippines reaffirms its commitment to continue working with the United States to advance Philippines-US relations,” Manalo said.
Manalo also said he is looking forward to working with his counterparts in bringing the Philippines-US “alliance to even greater heights under the administration of president-elect Donald Trump.”
Manalo's statement came after President Marcos congratulated Trump and the American people "for their victory in an exercise which showed the world the strength of American values."
"We look forward to working with President Trump on a wide range of issues that will yield mutual benefits to two nations with deep ties, shared beliefs, common vision, and a long history of working together," Marcos said.
In a chance interview on Wednesday, Manalo told Manila Bulletin he was hoping that the US' support for the Philippines would not change regardless of whoever won the polls.
