DITO celebrates major milestone: Exceeding expectations in its 5-year technical audit

The Philippines’ third major telecommunications provider, DITO Telecommunity marked a significant milestone with the culmination of its 5-year technical audit. In a celebratory event held in Makati City last October 8, 2024, DITO Telecommunity CEO Eric Alberto, in his speech, acknowledged the collective efforts of DITO’s partners, stakeholders, and team in transforming the nation’s telecommunications landscape.

Alberto expressed deep gratitude to DITO’s founding entities, UDENNA Corporation and China Telecoms — their leadership and vision were key drivers behind the company’s successful journey. The CEO also emphasized the critical role the Philippine government played in supporting the telco’s mission of introducing competition and innovation in a market previously dominated by just two providers.

DITO’s license, granted in 2019, marked the beginning of an ambitious mission to revolutionize telecommunications in the Philippines. The company faced the challenge of competing with established industry giants but took it as an opportunity to bring change. The telco has significantly improved the country’s internet speed and affordability in just five years. In 2017, the Philippines ranked 100th globally in download speeds; today, it has climbed to 81st, with DITO’s 4G speeds exceeding 90 Mbps and 5G reaching an impressive 580 Mbps.

Beyond speed, DITO also made strides in reducing internet costs. From US$11 per GB in 2015, the price has dropped to just US$0.52 per GB by 2022, a testament to the impact of healthy competition. Alberto shared that DITO’s success extends beyond numbers — it represents the trust of over 13 million subscribers and the dedication of its team in bringing affordable and reliable connectivity to Filipinos.

DITO’s recent passing of its fifth independent audit, surpassing government hurdles, including 86% population coverage and delivering speeds far above the 55 Mbps requirement, cements its role as a game-changer in the industry. This achievement signals not just the end of a 5-year commitment but the start of even greater ambitions.
