740 PDLs freed by BuCor


A total ot 740 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) had been freed by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) from Aug. 31 to Oct. 8, 2024.

“Each time we release a PDL, we are giving him or her a chance to embark on a new chapter in his or her life  and every release is more than just a statistic,” said BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. 

“It is a story of resilience, hope and a chance to start a new life,” Catapang also said. 

Those released during the period were from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City with 375; Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, 41; Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro, 41; Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan, 34; Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) in Abuyog, 21; Davao Prison and penal Farm (DPPF) in Davao del Norte, 106; San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) in Zamboanga del Sur, 105; and CIW Mindanao, 17.

The BuCor said the 740 inmates include 459 whose sentences have expired; 147 who got acquitted; one released on bail; 40 who were granted probation; three who were granted writs of habeas corpus; one who was granted final release and discharge; 86 who were granted parole; and three who were turned over the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) but still have pending cases.

Of the 740 PDLs released, 60 of them were freed on Tuesday, Oct. 8

So far, the bureau said a total of 16,657 inmates had been freed under the administration President Marcos.
