Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo's reported intention to run for public office in the 2025 mid-term elections was met with equal parts concern and disdain by senators.

Needless to say, Senators Risa Hontiveros and Sherwin Gatchalian didn't approve of it and insisted on referring to Guo by her supposed real name: Guo Hua Ping.

"Mukhang wala pa ring tigil ang panloloko ni 'Alice Guo' sa taumbayan, kahit na nasa loob na siya ng kulungan," Hontiveros said.

(Looks like 'Alice Guo' can't stop fooling the people even when she's incarcerated.)

"Guo Hua Ping would be committing an act of material misrepresentation if she fills out her certificate of candidacy (COC) and falsely declares herself to be a Filipino citizen," she said.

"The COC is an important document executed under oath. Kung magpupumilit si Guo Hua Ping sa kanyang kasinungalingan, dadagdag pa ang perjury sa litanya ng mga krimen na kanyang kinasasangkutan," she noted.

(If Guo Hua Ping insist on her lies, then perjury will be added to her long list of crimes.)

Guo, who is reportedly seeking a return to her old post, is a key personality in congressional hearings on the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) controversy. She is allegedly a spy from China.

Gatchalian echoed Hontiveros' sentiments. "The reported plan of Guo Hua Ping, also known as Alice Guo, to run for public office is yet another brazen attempt to undermine the country’s laws," he said.

"I strongly urge the Comelec (Commission on Elections) to immediately enforce the necessary legal measures to disqualify her from seeking public office," he said.

According to Gatchalian, the poll body itself approved the recommendation of its law department to take action against Guo for violating the Omnibus Election Code through blatant misrepresentation.

"One of the key findings is the matching fingerprints between Alice Guo and Chinese passport holder Guo Hua Ping. Also, she falsely claimed to be a Filipino born in Tarlac, while official records show that she is a Chinese national, born in Fujian to her Chinese mother, Lin Wenyi," said the senator from Valenzuela.

"Malinaw sa ating batas na bawal ang mga banyaga na tumakbo sa anumang posisyon sa gobyerno," Gatchalian said.

(It's clear from our laws that a foreigner can't run for any position in government.)
