9 dead in Batangas due to STS ‘Kristine’


CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Nine individuals were killed by severe tropical storm “Kristine” in Batangas, police said.

SEVERE tropical storm 'Kristine' is about to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility. 

The Police Regional Office 4-A said six persons – four adults and two children – drowned in a flashflood in Barangay Sampaloc, Talisay town. Their bodies were recovered and taken to the barangay hall.

Bernaldo Bojiya Arcabado was buried alive after his house was hit by a landslide in Barangay Ping-as, Alitagtag town.

An unidentified man was swept away by flood in Tanauan City.

In Calaca, Ariel Rodriguez Cantreras was crushed by a tree that toppled and hit his house.

Police said three individuals are missing, three were injured, and three were rescued in a landslide.

The injured were identified as Jimuel, 16; Myke, 15, and Melanie Llanes, 38, a call center agent.

The missing were Marilou Llanez, 25, OFW; Grae 10, and Olivia, 10-months-old. 

Rescued after a landslide that hit their house in Laurel were Jannessa Lapuz Landicho, 47; Patricia Anne Lapuz Landicho, 22, and Kyle Jasper Mathew, 2.

Two persons were missing and a nurse was rescued onboard a car that stalled on a flooded road in Barangay Quilib, Rosario, on Thursday night, Oct. 24.

Police identified the missing as Cristito Perez, 57, driver, and Azniah Samantha Perez, 16, student, and rescued was Louella Marie Cueto Nilo, 24, all residents of Barangay Maligaya, Rosario.

The car encountered engine trouble while crossing the road and stalled. 

A flashflood occurred and the car was swept into a creek.

Nilo was able to exit from the window and get to safety while the Perezes were left inside and went missing as the car was swept away by flood.

A man and his wife were buried alive in a landslide that hit their house in Sitio Ibaba, Barangay Lucsuhin, Calatagan on Thursday.

The victims were identified as Toroba Eugia de Padua, 74, and Irenea Garces de Padua, 74.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

A 16-year-old student was electrocuted after a live wire fell on her while walking on a street at the height of Kristine in Lipa City on Thursday morning.

The victim was identified as an Angelyn. She was taken to the Lipa Medix Medical Center where she was declared dead.

Laguna

A 34-year-old man was also electrocuted  during a power failure due to Kristine in Barangay San Juan, Calamba City, Laguna, on Thursday.

Jose Bernardo Bombasi Geneciran was cleaning flooded appliances when power supply was restored and electrocuted. 

He was taken to the Calamba Medical Center Hospital where he was declared dead by Dr. Ron Matthew Flores.

Quezon

In Sariaya, Quezon, eight houses were swept away by  flood after the Bantilan River at the border of Batangas and Quezon provinces overflowed.

Four towns in Quezon –Tagkawayan, General Luna, Mulanay, and Lucban – and Binan City in Laguna have declared a state of calamity.
