240 PDLs freed by BuCor


Two hundred and forty persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released on Monday, Oct. 21, by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) from its prison facilities nationwide. 

With the release, a total of 6,110 PDLs had been been freed by the BuCor since January this year.

“Hopefully magkaroon kayo ng bagong pag-asa, panibagong buhay (Hopefully you will get new hopes and new lives),” BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said during the culminating activity for the release of the PDLs. 

Catapang assured that the BuCor is doing what it can to immediately free qualified PDLs. 

“Ginagawa namin lahat na magagawa namin dito (We are doing what we can),” he said.

The BuCor noted that those released included 124 who had served their maximum sentences, 30 who had been acquitted of their criminal charges, 16 who had been granted probation, 69 who had been granted parole, and one who was turned over to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) due to a pending case.

Of those released, 19 were from Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City; two  from CIW - Mindanao; 33 from Davao Prison and Penal Farm; six from Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm; 15 from Leyte Regional Prison; 49 from the Maximum Security Camp of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City; 48 from NBP Medium Security Camp; 10 from NBP Minimum Security Camp; five from NBP Reception and Diagnostic Center; 23 from Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm; and 30 from San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm.
