2 Grade 10 students drown in Batangas

TANAUAN CITY, Batangas – Two Grade 10 students drowned while swimming on a river in Barangay Laurel, this city, on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 20.

Police identified the victims as Ron Gabriel Mercado, 15, of Calamba City, Laguna, and Jomar Roslin Masapol, 14, also of Calamba City.

Investigation said that that the victims swam to the deepest portion of the river but failed to return to the river bank due to the strong current.

Their companions attempted to rescue them but failed due to the strong current.

They sought the help of barangay officials who asked the assistance of patrolling authorities.

The bodies of the victims were recovered and subjected to police forensic examination.
