4 suspects arrested for 'producing falsified' public documents

Four persons have been arrested in Sta. Cruz, Manila by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for producing "falsified public documents" like NBI and police clearance, land title, driver's license, and passport.

NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago presented the suspects to the media on Wednesday, Oct. 16.  Three of them were identified as  as Paul Christian C. Abellera, Edgardo C. Carpio, Jenny Bade C. Trajano. Being a minor, the NBI did not identify the fourth suspect.

The NBI, in a statement, said the suspects were arrested by operatives of the NBI Special Task Force (NBI-STF) during an operation conducted last Oct. 14.

“Recovered from the possession of the arrested Subjects were computers, office tools, and spurious documents such as NBI Clearance, PSA (Philippine Statistics Authority) Certificate, land titles, and LTO (Land Transportation Office) Certificates, drivers' licenses, among others,” said the bureau.

“Subjects were presented for inquest proceedings before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Article 172 in relation to Article 171 of the Revised Penal Code, as amended,” it added.

The NBI said the operation was conducted after the STF received information regarding certain individuals allegedly engaged in falsifying public documents.

The bureau noted that “these individuals are offering fake NBI Clearance, land titles, passport, and other documents in Santa Cruz, Manila, for a price ranging from P700 to P2,500.”
