PAGASA sees cyclone-free week ahead

The country is expected to remain cyclone-free for the next few days, as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) does not anticipate any tropical cyclone formation over the coming week.

PAGASA, in its weather outlook for Oct. 11 to 18, said the dominant weather systems in the country will be the northeasterly wind flow, shear line, and easterlies.

The northeasterly wind flow is the initial blast of cold air associated with the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” while the shear line is formed when cold air collides with warm air.

Meanwhile, the easterlies are warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.

From Friday to Sunday, Oct. 11 to 13, PAGASA said the northeasterly wind flow or a potential shift to the shear line will bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Northern and Central Luzon.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated afternoon or evening rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

From Monday to Tuesday, Oct. 14 to 15, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region may see mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the easterlies.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated afternoon or evening rain showers or thunderstorms.

From Wednesday to Friday, Oct. 16 to 18, the entire archipelago may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with chances of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly over the eastern section of the country.
