PH gov't calls out bombing of UAE envoy's residence in Sudan

The Philippine government has called for the compliance of Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic Relations following the bombing of the residence of the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Khartoum, Sudan.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it deeply regrets the incident, which UAE called "a heinous attack."

The Sudanese army denied responsibility over the bombing and instead passed the blame on the paramilitary, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with which it is in conflict.

"We call for full respect for the safety and safeguarding of diplomatic premises in accordance with relevant Vienna Conventions," the DFA said.

Fighting continues between Sudan's military and paramilitary, which has already displaced and killed a significant number of Sudanese.

The crisis stemmed from a power struggle between the two forces, which started in April 2023.
