Sec Remulla: Alice Guo 'has no right' to run for mayor in 2025

Dismissed mayor Alice L. Guo of Bamban, Tarlac has no right to run again as a mayoralty candidate in the 2025 elections, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said on Friday, Oct. 4.

“I wouldn't say it's her right,” Remulla declared.

He responded to the pronouncements made by lawyer Stephen David, the legal counsel of Guo, that she plans to file a certificate of candidacy (COC) next week and run for the position of mayor of Bamban.

Remulla pointed out that Guo "is not a Filipino and she bears falsified documents.”

David explained Guo decided to run “para ipakita n’ya talaga ‘yung pagmamahal n’ya sa taong bayan, sa bayan most especially sa Bamban (to show her love for country, especially to the town of Bamban).”

"Kung talagang gusto s’ya ng tao dun sila dapat ang humusga (it should be the people who should decide if they still want her),” he said.

He reminded that the cases she is facing including those questioning her Philippine citizenship are not yet final.

“She is a Filipino. She is a Filipina. So, wala namang decisions on courts as of now na hindi siya Pilipino (the courts have no decisions yet concerning her citizenship),” he stressed.
