PDEA destroys P5.9-M marijuana


SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Region 1 (Ilocos) destroyed P6-million worth of marijuana plants in a two-day eradication operation in Mount Leteban, Barangay Licungan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur, and Sitio Les-eng, Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet province from January 24 to 25.

PDEA-Region 1 Director Joel Plaza said they uprooted 11,100 fully grown marijuana plants and seized 1,800 seedlings worth P2.3 million in three plantations with a total land area of 1,706 square meters in Sugpon.

On the other hand, 18,010 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants and 702 marijuana seedlings valued at P3.6 million from nine plantations with a total land area of 3,129 square meters were destroyed in Kibungan.

Plaza said these were burned on-site and samples were brought to their headquarters here for documentation and proper disposition.
