Continuous moderate to heavy rains inundated many villages in Davao de Oro which affected 295 families, prompting province-wide search and rescue operations on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that the rains caused by the effects of shearline in the region resulted to flooding incidents and landslides in at least six barangays in the municipalities of Nabunturan, Mawab, and New Bataan.

There were 207 affected families in Nabunturan, 47 in Mawab, and 41 in New Bataan, the NDRRMC said.

The numbers are expected to further increase as more regions were affected by the bad weather.

In Maco, Davao de Oro, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson Rear Adm. Armando Balilo said more than 20 families were rescued from waist-deep floods in Barangays Bucana and Hijo.

"The rescued residents were brought to an evacuation center so they could receive further assistance from the local government unit," he said.

He said the Coast Guard Station Davao de Oro has alerted its personnel and placed its deployable response groups on standby in case calls for rescue are needed.
