The DCWD and the Apo Agua Infrastructura Inc. said in a joint statement that they started distributing bulk water to the Calinan, Tugbok, Riverside, Dumoy, Cabantian, and Panacan water supply systems (WSS) on December 1.

Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, spokesperson for the DCWD, said before initiating the distribution, the DCWD and Apo Agua confirmed that water quality adheres to the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water that serves as the established criteria for water safety in the nation.

Apo Agua, the builder of the state-of-the-art bulk water facility that includes a 300 million liters per day (MLD) water treatment plant with a 70-kilometer pipeline, also guaranteed sustainable delivery of quality bulk water supply to six DCWD water supply systems.

“This pivotal development is a key component of the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project (DCBWSP), harnessing the Panigan- Tamugan River as a sustainable surface water source to augment DCWD’s water supply significantly,” the Apo Agua said.

Duhaylungsod said that from December to present, they have been adjusting their systems, and a part of that is receiving and delivering bulk water to customers. She added that when distributing water, they ensure that it meets the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water.

“Since the start of the Apo Agua’s bulk water supply to DCWD, we have seen a significant improvement in the availability of water and pressure, especially in areas experiencing intermittent water supply,” Duhaylungsod said.

The DCWD has also started accepting new service connection applications in more areas effective January 1 – Sasa, Ilang, Tibungco, Bunawan, Lasang, Pampanga, Lanang, Communal, Indangan, Bajada, Buhangin, Mandug, Agdao, and Downtown Proper.

Duhaylungsod said improvement in water supply allowed them to stop water delivery activities through water tanks in 30 areas here because there is now 24/7 water supply availability.

They also said that while systems integration activities for the Apo Agua and DCWD are ongoing, operational adjustments for distribution are simultaneously being carried out to expand the reach of the bulk water supply and benefit more customers.

“These adjustments will also address isolated cases of low water pressure to no water,” Apo Agua said, adding that customers should promptly report any issues with their water supply or quality during the operational adjustments. It could be isolated cases that needed extra attention, it added.

Duhaylungsod said DCWD is simultaneously conducting operational adjustments for distribution to expand the reach of the bulk water supply and benefit more customers. These adjustments are being executed to address isolated cases of low water pressure to no water, she said.
