The Philippines will receive P12 million in assistance from the European Union (EU) as the country faces devastation from 'Ferdie,' 'Gener,' and habagat (southwest monsoon).
The regional bloc on Thursday, Sept. 19, announced that it released €2.2 million in humanitarian aid to help those populations in Southeast Asia that were most affected.
"This funding will help address the most pressing needs, such as food, water and sanitation, and healthcare," it said.
A total of €200 million will go to the Philippines while the largest amount from the funding, €1.2 million, will support the humanitarian response in Myanmar, €650,000 will be allocated to Vietnam, and the remaining €150,000 to Laos.
"As Southeast Asia has suffered one of the deadliest typhoons in recent years, our thoughts go to all the victims and their families," EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič said.
"The EU stands ready to help the affected communities with all the means at its disposal. This new funding will help people in Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and the Philippines to address their most immediate needs," she added.
At least 20 people were believed killed while 14 went missing after Tropical Storm Ferdie, Tropical Depression Gener, and the southwest monsoon lashed parts of the Philippines.
