Even as Severe Tropical Storm “Enteng” (international name “Yagi”) remains within the country’s area of responsibility, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is closely monitoring the potential development of a new tropical cyclone next week.

Weather Specialist Veronica Torres said that, based on PAGASA’s two-week tropical cyclone threat potential forecast issued on Tuesday, Sept. 3, there is a “high chance” that a potential weather disturbance could develop into a tropical cyclone between Sept. 10 and 16.

There is no additional information about the potential tropical cyclone at this time but PAGASA will continue to monitor it closely, Torres said.

She added that no low pressure areas have been monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of Tuesday.

Enteng is currently the only active tropical cyclone within the PAR, but it is expected to exit by Wednesday, Sept. 4.
