Interview: Rookie boy band New:ID on their debut, goals

Korean entertainment agency MLD Entertainment recently launched New:ID, its second Filipino global boy band.

New:ID’s members are Wilson, Macky, L, Thad, and Jom who were all participants in the “Dream Maker” reality survival show in the Philippines which ran from 2022 to 2023.

After a year of training and preparation, New:ID made their debut last July with the single “Ghost.”

In an interview with Manila Bulletin, New:ID members expressed their excitement about their debut and unveiled their plans and goals.

“Of course, we are super relieved. We would dance for nearly 12 hours. We had singing, vocal lessons, rap lessons, all the lessons. We are super relieved that we made our debut,” said Jom.

Macky said he was so happy because “the day finally came that we made our debut, that we were introduced to the public and what we and the fans had been waiting for finally came.”

L said he feels the pressure of proving themselves.

“I am a little scared because I feel pressured and the whole group because we were not the winning group. We we have to work extra harder because we need to prove ourselves but, of course, we are happy since finally we will be seen by our supporters and we can show them what they see in us,” he said.

According to Thad, “Yeah, for me, I'm very excited because we can finally show what we trained for this, what we trained for in other country, in Korea, we can show to the fans and to our future fans.”

“Yeah, we're super happy and excited because we trained so long and we worked very hard for one year and we are so excited to finally be able to debut and to meet all of our supporters,” said Wilson.

About their debut song “Ghost,” Jom explained, “On the surface level ‘Ghost’ is all about one-sided love about someone who can't love you back but for us the lyrics of ‘Ghost’ have a deeper meaning. The lyrics ‘I'm not a ghost, baby. Can't you see that I'm trying.’ We don't want people just seeing right through us. We want them to see our worth as an artist and our potential to be big someday in the future.”

New:ID started doing their debut showcase mall tours in the country and guesting.

“And we will also have an MV [music video] for our ballad song ‘The Day We Meet Again.’ That’s what they should watch out for from us,” said L.

Jom added, “Also big events are coming up that we can’t disclose yet because there is no final announcement yet but it’s a very big event.”

Goals

About the goals they want to achieve, Jom said,  “We want to have an album of our own. Of course, that is the wish of every artist but for now, the events that we have been waiting for, those are what we are looking forward to and hopefully this year, we can release other singles.”

New:ID said there are no plans yet for activities in Korea as they are focusing on their career in the Philippines.

“Hopefully someday when our name is already big in the Philippines, we can try,” said L.
