Girl-Love movie, Unang Tikim, has the distinction of being the first Vivamax film to open on the big screen on Aug. 7.

At the movie’s press preview held on Aug. 2 at Fisher Mall in Quezon City, we were struck by its boldness and quite graphic cinematography. In fairness, the two female leads, Angeli Khang and Rob Guinto, being young and attractive, are a delight to watch on screen.

They also manage to shine in their dramatic scenes, mostly about lovers’ quarrels. The two actresses, however, have a tendency to emote over the top, confusing great acting with lots of screaming.

Next time, director Roman Perez Jr. should caution them to exercise self-control to make sure such scenes yield more positive results.

Perez says the process to convince SM was long and tedious, but in the end, he says, the absence of this genre in local cinemas must have created a need that has to be filled.
