Forty persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro have sought the grant of parole and executive clemency, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Sunday, July 28.
Executive clemency refers to reprieve, absolute pardon, conditional pardon with or without parole conditions, and commutation of sentence granted by the President.
In a statement, BuCor said that last July 25 representatives of the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) “conducted pre-parole and executive clemency interviews with 40 PDLs across various sub-prisons of SPPF.”
“The interviews focused on evaluating the PDLs' eligibility for potential parole and executive clemency,” the bureau said.
It said that SPPF, under the leadership of C/SInsp. Abel DR Ciruela as acting superintendent, remains dedicated to fostering a second chance for PDLs, offering them the opportunity to reintegrate into society and contribute positively to their communities.”
