NBI, PCG ink agreement to enhance law enforcement capabilities

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday, June 13, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to enhance their capabilities in law enforcement.

The MOA was signed by NBI Director Medardo G. de Lemos and PCG Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan.

In a press statement, the NBI said "the MOA aims to enhance cooperation and coordination between NBI and PCG to improve their capabilities in law enforcement,"

It said "the agreement signifies the agencies’ commitment to strengthen enforcement efforts in maritime areas including the detection, investigation, and prosecution of maritime-related crimes and offenses, as well as enhance the efficiency of both agencies in suppressing crimes committed within the Philippines jurisdiction, both land and maritime,"

It also said the MOA includes initiatives in extending collaborative partnerships with local sectors, organizations, and other government agencies for more resolute maritime and coastal monitoring.

At the same time, the NBI said the agreement would ensure effective and efficient implementation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9993, the PCG Law of 2009; RA 10867, the NBI Reorganization and Modernization Act; and Executive Order No. 94 on the reorganization of offices in the executive department.
