Sec Remulla to freed 126 PDLs: "Inspire other persons still in jail'


Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla urged 126 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who were freed during the celebration of 126th anniversary of Independence Day on Wednesday, June 12, to serve as inspiration to the positive transformation of other persons still in jail.

 “You  overcame the challenges and obstacles to become the better person you are today. May you continue to let your light shine as you embrace life outside prison to serve as an inspiration for the positive transformation of others,” Remulla said in a statement. 

He also expressed the DOJ's gratitude to Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr.

“My sincerest appreciation to the hard work and dedication of Director Catapang for always making a positive impact to our Corrections System,” he said.

Also as part of the Independence Day celebration, the DOJ's Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) along with the the Ateneo Legal Services Center (ALSC) provided free legal services to inmates at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

Legal aid caravan were also conducted by the DOJ at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF), the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IWPPF), the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF), the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), and the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP).
