A new producer wants to gamble on a movie based on the life story of April ‘Boy’ Regino. The singer behind the hit song, Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin, among other jukebox favorites, died at age 59 due to diabetes complications.

Biopics based on the lives of singers are getting in vogue. Recently shown were Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko (the Rey Valera Story), Loyalista (the life of Imelda Papin). Ready for showing is a movie on the life of the late Victor Wood, played out by Martin Escudero.

Imagine your own teacher, singing out there wildly on stage, competing with seven other talented singers, all of them under the veil of masks.

Such is the concept behind “Gimme a Break: Teachers Edition,” a talent search competition featuring teachers only. The groundbreaking contest marks the first collaboration between Dr. Carl Balita of CEB Review Center and box office director Cathy Garcia Sampana of newly formed NICKL Entertainment.

Dr. Carl, of course, is President & CEO of the popular, 200-branches strong Review Center that bears his name. CBRC is the alma mater of board passers, including teachers, nurses, midwives, criminologists, agriculturists.

“Gimme a Break” trains the spotlight on Filipino talent. The eight contestants are currently going through a series of learnings and challenges under the guidance of a team of professionals, namely: Frenchie Dy, Beverly Salviejo, Rocky Garcia, Joross Gamboa, and Jeffrey Tam.

They will also serve as judges during the final round together with Dr. Carl and Direk Cathy.

Cash prizes, ranging from P20,000 to P50,000 await the three grand winners on The Final Reveal on April 10. They will also sign an exclusive contract with CLINK Artist Management.
