'Good news!': DepEd to release P5K cash allowance to teachers starting Aug. 29

The Department of Education (DepEd) will be releasing the P5,000 cash allowance to eligible teachers once classes in public schools start by the end of this month.

“Good news to our teachers!,” said DepEd Undersecretary for Finance Annalyn Sevilla in a Facebook post on Aug. 7 as she announced that the P5,000 Cash Allowance “shall be released to eligible teachers” starting Aug. 29, 2023, or the start of the School Year (SY) 2023-2024.

Sevilla also posted the Advisory on the Processing and Payment of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Cash Allowance to teachers.

Based on the advisory, the P5,000 cash allowance will be given to eligible classroom teachers for the “purchase of teaching supplies and materials, for internet subscription, and other communication expenses, and for an annual medical expense” for the incoming school year.

DepEd noted that in the “exigency of the the entire teaching force,” the P5,000 cash allowance for the implementing units of DepEd that have available cash allocation “shall release / pay eligible teachers” not earlier than Aug. 29.

“The Regional Offices must ensure that the allotment for the purpose shall be processed and released to Schools Division Offices as soon as possible,” DepEd said.
