Man arrested by NBI for ‘sextortion’

A man has been arrested for allegedly extorting money and demanding sex from a female student whom he reportedly threatened to spread her nude photos and sex videos, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.

In a statement, the NBI identified the suspect as Lester John Dayrit Ponce against whom charges of violations of Republic Act No. 7610, the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, and RA 9995, the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act, and seduction and robbery or extortion have been filed after his arrest last Aug. 17.

The victim’s parents, who were not identified in the NBI statement, sought the help of the agency’s Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-AOTCD) when they learned that Ponce “had sent sensitive messages, pictures and videos to the classmates, schoolmates, and the official website of victim’s school.”

The NBI said its AOTCD agents conducted an operation after the victim, herself, confessed that “Subject Ponce had carnal knowledge with her in various dates as a result of the threats of Subject that he will spread her sex videos and other sensitive pictures.”

“Victim also stated that an individual who claimed to be the ex-girlfriend of Subject Ponce messaged her that she has in her possession Victim’s sex videos and nude photos thru hacking of the latter’s messenger account,” it said as it noted that the victim was contacted on Facebook’s messenger account.

“The alleged ex-girlfriend used the said videos and photos of Victim to extort money from the latter amounting to P37,200,” it added.

The NBI said that after Ponce’s arrest, he was asked to call the Facebook messenger of his alleged ex-girlfriend.  It said Ponce’s phone rang that “led to the conclusion that Subject is the person behind the said Facebook messenger account.”
