BuCor allows Puerto Princesa City to access water from sources within Iwahig Prison

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has allowed the Puerto Princesa City Water District (PPCWD) to access water from sources within the jurisdiction of the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) for the city's residents.

The water supply would come from Sta. Lucia river, Inagawan river, and other sources within IPPF, BuCor said in a statement.

BuCor said that Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. has assured that the bureau “is always open to help and cooperate in whatever capacity deemed it necessary particularly in areas where our prison and penal farms are located.”

IPPF in Puerto Princesa City is one of BuCor’s seven detention facilities nationwide.

Aside from IPPF, the six other prison and penal farms are the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City, Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro, Leyte Regional Prison in Leyte, and the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Davao del Norte.

The Puerto Princess City Council expressed its gratitude by passing Resolution No. 605-2023 which acknowledged the leadership of Catapang who “granted without hesitation the request of the PPCWD for the utilization of its water resources for the residents to continuously enjoy the utilization of a safe water supply.”

“Catapang for his part thanked the Sangguniang Panlunsod of the City of Puerto Princesa and the whole local government unit led by its Mayor Lucilo Bayron and Vice Mayor Maria Nancy Socrates,” BuCor said.
