Egay-triggered landslides kill 5 in Baguio, Benguet


BAGUIO CITY – Five people died and seven others were rescued in landslides triggered by typhoon “Egay” in this city and Benguet on Wednesday, July 26.

A 16-year-old student was killed while his parents survived a landslide that buried their house in Barangay Bakakeng here.

The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO)-Police Station 10 (Marcos Highway), the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Task Force Group Baguio, Bakakeng Central Barangay personnel, and residents conducted search and rescue after the landslide that trapped the victims at around 10:30 a.m.

Rescuers retrieved two individuals, a 59-year-old construction worker and his 48-year-old housewife, while the body of their 16-year-old son was extracted around 12:25 p.m.

The teenage boy who was trapped in his room was declared dead on arrival in the hospital.

Four people were killed and five were rescued from two houses buried in a landslide in Buguias, Benguet.

The Benguet 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Benguet Provincial Police Office conducted a search and rescue after a concrete riprap collapsed and covered the house of Julius Tumpap at 5 a.m.

Rescued were as Julius, 61; Marlyn Dolorito Tumpap, 52; Ezekiel Tumpap Torio, 8; Milkezedic Tumpap Torio, 6, and Janielle Tumpap Dulot, 8.

Fatalities were a 12-year-old girl, Jasmine Tumpap Dulot, Marjorie Dolorito Tumpap, 20, Camille Tumpap Dulot, 5, and Hosana Tumpap, 2.
