Afternoon rain showers, thunderstorms may affect parts of PH

Most of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with a chance of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, June 19.

PAGASA said Mindanao may experience more frequent afternoon or evening rain showers due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and localized thunderstorms.

ITCZ is a weather system that occurs when winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, resulting in rains.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country may see fair weather due to partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with rain showers or thunderstorms possible in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA advised the public to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, as these may trigger landslides or flash floods, especially in areas that are vulnerable to these hazards.

Weather specialist Obet Badrina said there is no tropical cyclone near or inside the country’s area of responsibility that could affect the weather in the next few days.
