Heat index hits danger level in 12 areas on April 7

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the heat index in 12 areas reached the “danger” level on Monday, April 7.

A heat index between 42°C and 51°C falls within the danger level, as it increases the likelihood of heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Prolonged exposure to such conditions can lead to heatstroke.

Based on PAGASA’s monitoring, the heat index in Virac, Catanduanes hit 46 degrees Celsius (°C) on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, it reached 43°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan and Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite.

Other areas recorded a 42°C heat index, which includes Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City, Pampanga; Cuyo, Palawan; Masbate City, Masbate; Roxas City, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Dumangas, Iloilo; Panglao International Airport, Bohol; Maasin, Southern Leyte; and Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The heat index combines air temperature and relative humidity to estimate the apparent temperature, or how hot it feels to the human body.
