
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck offshore of Davao Occidental on Tuesday evening, April 22.
Phivolcs said the quake struck at 6:17 p.m. Its epicenter was traced 295 kilometers southeast of Sarangani Island, Sarangani town in Davao Occidental.
Intensity III (weak) shaking was reported in Malungon in Sarangani and General Santos City in South Cotabato.
Intensity II (slightly felt) was also recorded in Tupi and Koronadal City in South Cotabao and Kiamba in Sarangani.
Meanwhile, the tremor was “scarcely perceptible” at Intensity I in Maitum and Malapatan in Sarangani and Palimbang in Sultan Kudarat.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic and was triggered by the movement of an active fault near the area.
The agency warned of damage to property and potential aftershocks.
